Lap booking class Term 2 lesson 4

Today we did
1. Shirley revisited the steps to draw a caterpillar. She drew 7 straight lines, then ask tots what's next? She purposely drew ^ to cover the top. She asked is it correct? No, should be a curve to close up the tops. Then curve again to close up the bottoms. She drew a rectangle for caterpillar's face and asked if that is correct. No, should be a circle. She drew the eyes and a mouth that curve downwards. She asked is it a sad face? No should be a happy face. Next, she drew tail above the caterpillar's head and asked is it correct? No. Where should it be. At the back. All these set tots laughing and caught their attention.

2. Shirley showed pictures of caterpillar. She showed one with black and yellow stripes. She asked what other animal has yellow and black stripes? Png Png said Gila Monster. I like that. Shirley said such question is very important as it teaches tots to relate what they learnt by drawing from their memory bank. She asked are all caterpillars with yellow and black stripes? No, she showed other pictures of caterpillar that is green in color, caterpillar with spikes on the body.

3. Shirley showed a leaf. She said the top side of the leaf is smooth. The lines on the leaf are veins. The line across in the center is the stem or stork. Turn over the leaf and touch the underside of the leaf to feel the veins and stem. Shirley gave each tot a leaf and a piece of white paper to trace the leaf with crayon. Parents to describe the leaf and tracing activity with tot. Parents to cut out the traced leaf. This is to be used for the cover of this lapbook. Shirley gave 3+3+1 stickers to each tot. She drew 7 circles on the board and wrote number 1 to 7 from right to left and count. Then she erased it and wrote 1 to 7 from left to right and count. She said both ways also gave 7. Tot had to paste the 7 stickers next to each other on the cut out of the traced leaf to make a caterpillar.

4. Shirley gave out picture of 7 types of insects. Parents are to describe tot tot at home. Insects have 6 legs, 3 body parts, lay eggs. Ask tots questions like what is the insect that is red in color with black spots on the body? Does all insects drink nectar or eat plants and fruits? Some insects eat other insects. 5. Sang Good Bye song
