Today we did
1. Sang Good Afternoon song
2. Shirley asked tots did we do any coloring last week? What color did we use? Did we use blue? Purple? We used blue, red and yellow. We scoped color with spoon then mixed the colors with fingers, some used palms. What else? Did you use elbow, hair? We folded paper into half and tapped on the paper. The colors get on the other half of the clean paper. Shirley cut the coloring the tots did last week into shape of butterfly and returned to the tots. She gave out an ice cream stick to make the skinny body of the butterfly. She asked each tot how many feelers does butterfly have. Tots who got the correct answer will get pipe cleaners to make feelers. Png Png got the correct answer! Shirley said show tots the picture of the red butterfly in the lapbook to tot and let tot decide where to put the ice cream stick and feelers. Ice cream stick to glue on the paper and pipe cleaner to be secured to the stick with tape
3. Shirley asked where did caterpillar come from? Egg. Pop out of the egg came a tiny and very hungry caterpillar. Caterpillar drinks nectar with probosics. It builds a house called cocoon. It nibbles a hole in the cocoon and push out of the cocoon. Shirley said dramatise life cycle of butterfly so that tots can remember it. She said as we said out a word eg egg, spell it out for tot. This helps tot to know how words are formed. Same for name. Many parents write name of tot on paper instead of spelling name out for tot. Parents to write egg, caterpillar, pupa, butterfly in life cycle of butterfly. Draw the arrow in the life cycle with tot. 4. Tots to match sihouette of 4 butterflies to the picture. Parents had to describe the shape of butterfly and the shadow to help tot to do this matching activity. Let tot join the butterfly to the shadown. Png Png can't really draw the joining line well.
5. Shirley drew 7 straight lines side by side on the board then curve line to cover the top then bottom of the straight lines. She drew a circle and 2 dots followed by a curve line below the 2 dots. She drew 2 curve lines as tail of caterpillar. Lastly she drew dots on the body of the caterpillar. She asked tot how she started drawing the caterpillar. She repeated the steps and drew the caterpillar again as she repeated the steps.
Parents were to help tots draw caterpillar in the way Shirly did by giving tots instruction.
