Lap booking class Term 2 lesson 8

Today we did
1. Sang Good afternoon song
2. Shirley asked tots whether have they tried new fruits in the past few weeks? Anyone tried durian? Is it smelly? Mushy? Sweet? Bitter? Sour like lime? Anyone tried Mangosteen? What color is it? She showed picture of mangosteen. She said mangosteen has segments, it's purple color on the outside and white on the inside. Anyone tried dragon fruit? What color is it? There are 2 types - one is dark pink in color, another is white in color. It has many seeds. Do you remove the seeds before you eat it? No. You eat the seeds as well. The seeds cannot be digested, where do they go? They pass out in your poo but some are digested.
How to tell if something is a fruit? Is caterpillar fruit? No. Fruit grows on tree or plant. And it has seed(s). Is tree truck fruit? It grows on tree. No. It has no seed. Is car a fruit? No. Why not? Good to train a child to question why not? That shows that the child understand reason for something.

Are all fruits edible? kids eat fruits that we offer them. They do not know there are fruits that are inedible. Pong Pong fruit is inedible. It is poisonous. If you eat it, you will feel very sick and may die. It is green in color and looks like lime. It's tree is commonly found along expressway

3. Tots were given 2 mini booklet and picture of susage, apple, orange and plum to classify whether each picture is fruit or not fruit in the 2 mini booklet

4. Shirley asked tots have you ever make a wish? Do you make a wish during Christmas? Little mouse wishes that is has long neck, it hope it has long neck. It stretches it's neck hoping that it's neck will be long. Would it be sad if it's neck is not long? Would you be sad if mummy doesn't allow you to swim because you have running nose? You will be angry, sad, disappointed and throw tantrum. Shirley said it's good to teach kids words on feelings. This makes tantrum management easier as kids don't know there are such words to describe their feelings

5. Shirley showed a picture of mice on a book. She asked what is the color of the mouse? Where is the nose, eye, ear? What is on the face? Is it's tail long? There are claws on the feet for mouse to grib on tree truck when climbing up the tree. Is the fur long or short? Which mouse do you like? Is the body warm? What other animal has whiskers? Cat What is the whiskers for? It allows mouse to feel the surrounding especially when it comes out at night. What other animal in the story "Little mouse wants an apple" have whiskers? Sea lion. Sea lion uses it's whiskers to feel when it swims in the water

6. A picture of a mouse and words of it's body parts were distributed to tots to paste the words and draw a line to the body part in the picture

7. Sang Good bye song

Great thoughts from Chen Chen

Told Chen Chen aunty Lyn can't give him baby lobster as her baby lobsters died when she went for holiday. She put too much food in the tank and the water was clouded with lobster food. He said aunty Lyn should get a feeding machine which will release food into the tank at pre-set timing.Hmm..... I like that thought. He doesn't know such machine exist in the zoo

Had a causal conversation with Chen Chen

Me : I HATE these stupid geckos. Pass motion here and there
Chen Chen : Where? Around the basin?

Me : Yes...

Chen Chen : Put a camera here

Me : You think the gecko know it's a camera and will stop coming?

Chen Chen : No. It's a special camera that will spray insecticide and kill the gecko when it detects a gecko

I like his answer

Something to share : Food for thought - Bill Gates: The realities of life

I received an email forwarded from a friend. It's a good one!

~ Bill Gates~
This should be posted in every school or kid's bedroom.
Love him or hate him , he sure hits the nail on the head with this!
Bill Gates recently gave a speech at a High School about
eleven (11) things they did not and will notlearn in school.
He talks about how feel-good, politically correct teachings
created a generation of kids with no concept of reality and
how this concept set them up for failure in the real world.

Rule 1 : Life is not fair - get used to it!

Rule 2 : The world doesn't care about your self-esteem.
The world will expect you to accomplish something
BEFORE you feel good about yourself.

Rule 3 : You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school.
You won't be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.

Rule 4 : If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss

Rule 5 : Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity.
Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping:
They called it opportunity.

Rule 6 : If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault,
so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them.

Rule 7 : Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring
as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills,
cleaning your clothes and listening to you
talk about how cool you thought you were:
So before you save the rain forest
from the parasites of your parent's generation,
try delousing the closet in your own room..

Rule 8 : Your school may have done away with winners and losers,
but life HAS NOT. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades
and they'll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer.
*This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.

Rule 9 : Life is not divided into semesters.
You don't get summers off and very few employers
are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF.
*Do that on your own time.

Rule 10 : Television is NOT real life.
In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to
jobs.

Rule 11 : Be nice to nerds.
Chances are you'll end up working for one..

It's been a long time since we lasted visited Jurong Bird Park. Brought the boys there today. Spotted this tree with unique branches at Jurong Bird Park. What shape can you spot?
Beautiful flowers and flower penquin

Chen Chen learned to fold origami this young guide

Both wearing the same color theme
Hubby fed Lory bird at the entrance.

Chen Chen followed hubby to feed Lory birds

Chen Chen wanted me to go up to this tower to see hubby on the suspension bridge. It was scorching hot up at the tower. I felt like melting...

Chen Chen on the suspension bridge.

He likes to jump on the suspension bridge to make it shake.

Lory Loft

There are many Lories near the tower. They are beautiful colorful birds

They come in many different color combinations.

Visitors bought cups of food (see the plastic cups in the picture) at a counter in Jurong Bird Park to feed Lories.

Chen Chen had fun feeding Lories.

The Lories are very picky. They wanted the fresh concentrated bird's food. We added water to the cup and they refused to eat from our cup.

There was an interesting area with paint brushes and fossil for visitors to have a feel of Archeology

This Caucasian boy was very sweet to look for a brush for Chen Chen to join in the fun of brushing off the sand to search for fossil.

The brush of the paint brush that Chen Chen used came off and the Caucasian boy helped Chen Chen to fix it back.

The Caucasian boy left. Chen Chen enjoyed the brushing fun alone.

Flamingo in the background

On the way out, we passed by a souvenirs shop. There are birds soft toys on the shelf for sale.

Chen Chen chose his favorite color - blue penguin for taking picture.

Needless to say, I prefer the pink penguin.

Feed fishes at Hort Park

Today, my boys requested us to bring them to feed fishes. Thought of Hort Park instead of Botanic Garden which we go usuallyThere is a big fish pond at the entrance of Hort Park. My boys truely enjoyed feeding fishes there and spent the entire trip there feeding the fishes.Png Png fed fishes at the walk way in the center of the pond. I was quite worried that he slipped into the gaps between pieces of the cement walk way since his feets are small and could get into the gaps easily.
Png Png put a ball of fish food each time. We thought him to put the fish food in his palm then throw them into the pond.

Something different for a change instead of Botanic Garden all the time

Bouncy castle at Changi Airport terminal 3

Tonight we brought the 2 boys to Changi Airport teriminal 3 to play on the bouncy castle. Unlike the previous time, visitors have to present a receipt for any amount spent to play on the bouncy castle. We did not know about that and only managed to dig out one and only receipt. A very kind lady gave us a receipt so that both boys can play on the bouncy castle. Anyway, we were late and could only played on the castle once before it is closed for the day.

The theme this time is on Singapore Changi Airport. The aeroplanePng Png wanna "sit on" the aeroplane
