Marina Barrage

The Marina Barrage (Chinese:滨海堤坝) is a dam in Singapore built across the Marina Channel between Marina East and Marina South. It is a new downtown freshwater Marina Reservoir. It provides water supply, flood control and a new lifestyle attraction. Today we brought the boys there to fly kiteBehind us is a waterplay area. Many children played there. Luckily my boys were not interested to play in there at all. If not, it is going to be a big hassle getting them change into clean dry clothesChen Chen was attracted by an exhibit of 3 big drums rolling through and flo when the drums are filled with water and when emptied.
The sun was scorching hot. Chen Chen and hubby went to the roof gardne to fly kite while I walked around under the shade with Png Png.
Many couples were there taking their wedding photos. Those were the days.....

I brought Png Png to The Sustainable Singapore Gallery to enjoy the air-con after a while. We saw people flying kites at the roof garden from The Sustainable Singapore Gallery, under the air-con, not the scorching hot sun. Wu hu....
hen Chen flew kite at the roof garden
Our kite flew sky high. It's in black oval shape in the picture
Marina Barrage also acts as a tidal barrier to keep seawater out, helping to alleviate flooding in low lying areas of the city such as Chinatown, Jalan Besar and Geylang.
When it rains heavily during low-tide, the barrage’s crest gates will be lowered to release excess water from the reservoir into the sea. If heavy rain falls during high-tide, the crest gates remain closed and giant drainage pumps are activated to pump excess water out to sea.

At The Sustainable Singapore Gallery, there is a barrage model demonstrating how the Marina Barrage works . The demo shows what happens when rain falls and water builds up behind the barrage and how the pumps at work
My naughty boy climbed up the wall to look at the barrage model demo

There is a computer near the exit of The Sustainable Singapore Gallery that allows visitors to take picture and send it to the email address visitor provided.

Picture of Hubby and Png Png.
