Bright Tots Campus term 2 lesson 6

Today my parents sent Png Png and I to class because my left leg is still painful from the fall 3 weeks ago.

Today we did

1. Sing Good morning, I am special, Hey diddle diddle, Head shoulder knee and toes song

2. Teahcer Shirley read a book title "From head to toe" from Eric Carle

3. Do actions - kick legs, wiggle toes, bend knees, shake hips, raise arms, stomp feets, move shoulder All these actions are from the book "From head to toe"

4. Teahcer Shirley brought a toy potato with holes for inserting hat, eyes, nose, mouth, ears, arms, legs for the tots to insert the parts. There are a few interchangable inserts. This is a very good toy to practise fine motor skill and learn parts of body

5. Teahcer Shirley passed 3 potatoes around for the tots to feel. Then she peeled the potato skin and let the tots feel the skin (dry outside, damp inside). She cut the potato and let the tots see and feel the different shapes she cut (wedge, dome, circle)

6. Use cut potato to stamp on a piece of black paper with white paint

7. Teacher Shirley read a Chinese book "Shei de mao zhi" (Whose hat)

F1 craze

President of Textile Effect Paul Hulme bought tickets for F1. He bought tickets for Pit Grandstand ie the viewing stage for the starting and ending point.

He will be out of Singapore and will be back only for the grand final on Sunday. He gave out the 4 tickets he bought for Friday and Saturday. 4 lucky draw winners got the ticket. Unfortunately I was not one of them. Borrowed the ticket to take picture Hahaha......

Bright Tots Campus term 2 lesson 5

Travelling for today was smooth. We arrived early but it was raining cats and dogs. I had to take a cab from MRT station to Teacher Shirley's place. Que for taxi was very long Luckily, I reached Teacher Shirley's place just in time. However, I couldn't go to AVA room by the stairs as usual as this path is uncovered. I met 1 of the parents at the lift entrance. We waited a while for the security to let us into the lift lobby. So ended up late again.

Today, Teacher Shirley's elder elder boy Marcus sat in the class as her hubby was caught in the rain and no one was at home

Today, we did

1. sing good morning and I am special song

2. musical instruments - maraca, tambourine, and castanets were given out to the tots to play with when singing Hey diddle diddle

3. tots were given roller to paint on a big piece of paper pasted on the wall. This was fun but Png Png stood there to observe instead of painting

4. a bag of 12 Lincoln logs (rectangular shape wooden blocks) were given to the tots to count and stack

5. Teacher Shirley showed a picture of giraffe then gave out a paper with outline of giraffe, 2 yellow stripes and 1 brown stripes of paper. Parents were to tear the stripes of paper and let the tots paste the torn pieces of paper on the giraffe outline. This collage craft requires small fingers to manipulate torn paper to fit the outline of the picture and focus on sticking a piece of paper at a time. Thus, it trains motor skill, focus and attention span.

Library

We go to library almost every week. My boys like to go to the library

My boys are searching for books. Chen Chen likes to select books himself. He likes to read books on planet while Png Png likes the Chinese Wo Hui Du series

Hubby changed both boys into their swimming costume while I was prepaing lunch. Png Png refused to be zipped up as it is warm wearing the swimming costume

Bright Tots Campus term 2 lesson 4

Today was a smooth day for me. The waiting time for all MRT rides were either 1 mintue or 3 minutes the max. Of course I ran to catch MRT that were arriving in 1 minute

What we did today

1. Sing good morning and I am special song

2. Teacher Shirley showed a paper plate cut into crescent shape and asked the tots to feel the crescent shape - 2 sharp points on both ends and smooth curve in the center

3. Teacher Shirley got another crescent shape object - Del Monte banana. She let the tots touched the skin of the banana, then peeled a bit of the skin to let each tot peel a slice of the banana skin. Then she cut the banana and said that the crescent shape has gone and now the banana is in circle shape. She let the tots smell the banana. She smashed some banana pieces with hand and some with fork to illustrate different ways of smashing banana and how the banana appear when smashed with hand (in a flat paste) and fork (in long stripes) None of the tots wanna touch the smashed banana when asked to. This experiment helps to stimulate brain through sensorial experience and fine motor exercises

4. Each parent was given a snow pea (crescent shape) to let the tot touch the snow pea, then peel open the snow pea and let the tot smell the snow pea.

5. Teacher Shirley took out a Monkey balancing toy. There are different number of bananas to be hang on the monkey's hand to make the 2 arms balance in a straight line. The tots were given the banana to hang on the monkey's hand. Of course it was used to train motor skill for this age group rather than Mathematics concept

6. Bubble wrap and a Christmas tree deco (don't know how you call it, it's to go round the Christmas tree) were given to the tot to feel the texture. Teacher Shirley put the Christmas tree deco around her neck and dance Most tots didn't like the deco to go round their neck. It's pricky Png Png dislikes the deco. He didn't even wanna touch it. Feeling different texture (bubble wrap smooth; christmas tree deco prickly) stimulate brain neuron connections

7. Teacher Shirley painted a bubble wrap and printed it on a piece of white paper to show everyone

8. Teacher Shirley read a book title "Good night Gorilla" She said this is a very good book with very few words but many colorful pictures which can be used for the tots to look out for (eg where is the banana, where is the monkey) and create any story on our own. She said the picture with many pair of eyes in the dark is very classical for playing guessing game with kids

9. Every one was given 2 yellow stripe of paper and a piece of white paper with an outline picture of a crescent moon. Parents were to tear the yellow stripe of paper into squares and let tots paste the square papers on the moon

10. Teacher Shirley showed a book with picture of crescent shapes - moon, banana, boat

11. Parents clipped clothes peg on paper plate for tots to pull out Tots at this age are not expected to clip clothes peg on the paper plate

Png Png calls mummy

Png Png fussed when put on high chair for dinner This is not something unusual. Hubby coaxed him with toys and finally got him to sit down on his high chair. I did not buckle him and fed him straight away. After that, I left him in the high chair while I washed up in the kitchen. Hubby was with Chen Chen somewhere in the house. Png Png was alone in the dinning hall. Suddenly I heard Png Png called "MUMMY". I quickly ran to the dinning hall. All along, Png Png calls me ma ma. This is the first time he calls me mummy. I got a shock to see that Png Png almost slipped down the high chair. His bum was off the seat. He hang himself on by holding onto both ends of the table. Gosh!! He started crying only when I was in the process of getting him out of the hair chair. Probably he was too shocked to cry or he chanelled all his energy to hold on to the table. My poor baby

Skype daddy

Hubby was outstationed in China for a week. He skyped us every night. Chen Chen and Png Png like to send text message to hubby when he skyped us. Of course, they typed garbage

Pa pa's birthday

Today is my pa pa's birthday and Png Png's 18th month "birthday"

Png Png looked upset and didn't smile. Hmmm.... wonder if it's because nobody remembers he is 18 month today

Bright Tots Campus term 2 lesson 3

Hubby was in China for work for a week. Luckily, Mrs Ho brought forward school holiday break from next week to this week. Otherwise I have to trouble my dad to send and fetch Chen Chen to his enrichment class

Today I was a bit late for the lesson because of Chen Chen. When I reached Shirley's place, I rushed and tripped. I landed on my knee I was holding Png Png in my arms. Luckily, I had him tight in my arms. Think he got a little shock and "cried" a bit. Mummy here was unable to get up and had to be on the floor for a while before I could stand up

When I reached the class, Teacher was singing the good morning song to the last tod who just arrived - Png Png. Phew

3. star shape frame of different sizes were given to the tot to "house in" onto each other

4. 1 yellow ripe star fruit and 1 green unripe star fruit were given to the tot to touch and smell

5. use cut star fruit to do star fruit print on paper
6. Teacher Shirley read a book "good night moon"

7. Green and blue color play dough was given to the tots to play with and cut with the star shape frame

8. Teacher Shirley gave out different toy veg - brocoli, cauliflower, potato, tomato, cucumber to the tots to match the toy against card of the veg pictures pasted on the wall This trains classification skill and matching skill
