Lap booking class term 2 lesson 4

Today we did

1. Sang Good Afternoon song

2. Teacher Shirley read the book Run Away Bunny

3. Teahcer Shirley said she would let tots do 2 acitivies today. She would not limit the timing of each activity. Parents and tots could do the activities according to their own pace.

Teacher Shirley gave tots 2 white color A3 size papers, 1 blue color and 1 yellow color A3 size paper, a sushi grass, a cotton bud, crayon and magic pen to make cover for the lap book

Tots had to draw a big circle shape and a big oval shape. Png Png drew the shapes fairly small. I thought they are ok but Teacher Shirley wanted him to draw bigger. Wasted a lot of time here. Actually, I wanted to quickly move on as I expect Png Png is unable to finish the activities

4. Parents to help tots cut out the circle and oval shapes after tots drew them

5. Tots to tear A3 size blue color and yellow color paper into stripes or pieces. Again wasted a lot of time here as I thought have to tear all into small pieces

6. Parents to guide tots to do the cover for Run Away Bunny lap book with the circle shape, oval shape, blue paper, yellow paper, sushi grass, cotton bud, crayon and magic pen. As Png Png is not very cooperative in this activity and we wasted some time in drawing circle and oval shapes and tearing the color papers, he is way behind the other tots The other tots proceeded to do puzzle. I can't get him to draw eyes, nose, mouth and ears for rabbit

7. Match puzzle of adult animal with the young - lion/cub, bear/cub, duck/duckling, cow/calf, sheep/lamb, tiger/cub, dear/fawn, etc. I overheard that there are 5 packets of puzzle. Png Png only managed to do 1.5 packet
8. Sang Good bye song

Recite Chinese rhyme 小老鼠

Cut tofu

I let Png Png cut tofu to experience and learn the concept of cutting

Today we did

1. Sang Good Afternoon, Bunny Bunny hop hop hop songs

2. Teacher Shirley introduced the song Can you make a big rabbit

Can you make a big rabbit?

With 2 ears so very long

And let him hop and hop with legs so short and strong

He nibbles, nibbles carrot

For his dinner everyday

When he has had had enough, he scramper far away

3. Teaching Shirley read Run Away Bunny very quickly

4. Teacher Shirley gave out pictures of fish, fisherman, crocus, gardener, sailboat, wind, bird, tree, rock, mountain climber, flying trapeze, tight rope walker, boy, mummy holding boy to let tots narrate the Run Away Bunny story by pasting the pictures in the sequence of the events in the book. Parents had to help the tot do this sequencing activity by narrating 1 part of the event and tots paste the picture of the other part of the event, eg if the bunny is a fish, what will the mummy bunny become? A fisherman. Teacher Shirley said this sequencing activity trains the child's memory and concentration span. Narrating the story helps build language foundation as the child needs to use meaningful words to express and describe the sequence of the story. This activity also develop self confidence
Png Png refused to do this activity with me but did it when Teacher Shirley guided him.
5. Teacher Shirley gave out a series of 4 rabbit picture. 1st one with side view, 2nd one with front view, 3rd one with side view, 4th one with front view. Parents had to help tot pick the correct picture for the 5th picture. This is a pre maths activity. I told Png Png 1st bunny look at Teacher Shirley, then look at him, then look at Teacher Shirley, then look at him, so who will the bunny look at next. He couldn't get it. Teacher Shirley used Png Png and Chen Chen to represent the rabbits. Png Png still can't get it. She asked me to practise with Png Png at home using apples and oranges. I did it but Png Png played with the fruits instead of the concept of the pattern.

6. Before we sang Good Bye song, Png Png was singing Bunny Bunny hop hop hop song. Teacher Shirley heard him and guided the whole class to sing and action along with Png Png. Png Png was very happy

Housing project exhibit

We attended the exhibition of the Housing project in Carpe Diem today. I was very impressed with the craft done by the teachers and the children

As usual, I brought Png Png along to attend the exhibit

He also invented sound such as Kor yong kor yong. Initially I thought he was speaking Tegalog. He kept shouting kor yong when he saw MRT though the window. As I talk to him more then I realised he actually meant the sound made by MRT travelling on the track He said aeroplane also kor yong :-P
