Lap booking class Term 4 lesson 4

Today we
1. Sang Good Afternoon song
2. Tot painted a paper plate green with brush. Parent painted tot's both hands with the green paint and did hand print on a piece of paper
3. Tot to look at the written number on each holder of an empty egg tray then put the number of chip in each holder.
4. Each tot was given an activity sheet as below. Tot had to paste the number of sticker in the box. Png Png refused to do this activity in class. We completed it at home
5. Sang rhyme Brown Bear, Hug your bear and You are my teddy bear 6. Sang Good Bye song

Baby Jumper Gym contest 2010 photos taken at home

Teacher Eleen from Baby Jumper Gym gave me a flyer on Photo contest conducted by Baby Jumper Gym. She asked me to submit Png Png's photo for the contest. Winner of each category will get $150 voucher for joining the next term and a Baby Jumper Gym trophy. The contest was opened to Baby Jumper Gym students and photo must be taken in Baby Jumper Gym uniform

Lap booking class Term 4 lesson 3

Today we did
1. Sang Good Afternoon song
2. Shirley showed this book "Baby bears". It has many words in each page
She said tots see picture not words but parents should point the words when reading to tot so that tots know the words mean something when they start to read. Pointing the words also let tots knows that a sentance goes from left to right. Describe the pictures to the tots and asked questions about the picture to make tot think what is behind the pictures.
Png Png brought his green care bear. Shirly asked if there is green color bear in real life. She asked what is the color of the bears then pointed to the book and said there are brown bears, black bears, white polar bears, white face with black eye patch and limbs the panda bear.
She pointed to picture of a bear cub and said that it is grey in color. Bear cubs are weak. They can't climb trees and eat food like adult bears. They drink milk just like human babies.
Adult bears eat food and climb trees. They use sharp claws to grab on the tree and their 4 legs to climb tree. There is a picture on a few bears on a tree.
Shirley asked why the bears climb the tree? She said a 4 year old tot said the bear climb tree to look for fish. She answered the bears climb tree to look for mummy or playing or chase each other. She asked how bear eats fish. Bear eats fish using it's hand with sharp claws to hold the fish and mouth to bite
3. Tot were given 5 bears to arrange from the smallest to the biggest. Png Png has no problem with this now4. For older tots, parents wrote words on a stripe of paper and let tot match the list of words on a piece of paper. After that, parents introduced rhyming by reading the words on left side of the list and the rhyming words on the right side of the list. Shirley taught the other parent on the same table as me to ask the tot to read a word and another 2 words then ask tot which 1 sound the same eg hide and wide or hide and us. She didn't teach me to do that. Perhaps she thought I know what to do?
For younger tots, parents arrange alphabet to form the words on the list and read to tot.
5. Shirley read Brown Bear, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see? By Eric Carle. She said there are many rhyming words in this book
6. Sang rhyme Brown Bear, Hug your bear. Shirley also introdued song You are my teddy bear. She said can also replace the word teddy bear with brown bear
7. Sang Good Bye song

Lap booking class Term 4 lesson 2

Today we did
1. Sang Good Afternoon song
2. Shirley brought a teddy bear that looks like the teddy bear in the book "One Ted falls out of bed". She hid the bear behind the book then showed the legs, the head, just like what Eleen in BJG does. Shirley then read the book with animation. A few tots went after the teddy bear and took it from Shirley
3. Shirley asked how does Ted feel when
he falls down the bed? Sad
the mice ask him to play with them? Happy
roar in fast cars? Excited
gaze stars? Tired
Why the 6 dolls are kind? They share tea, grapes and cookies with Ted and the 3 mice
She said these questions help tot to develop empathy and see things not stated in the book. She said helps tot to build strong vocabulary by introducing new words eg gaze which we rarely use. Study shows that the number of vocabulary a child knows by 3 year old decide whether a child is an early reader. Describes new words introduced to tot eg vroom vroom with action to describe fast moving car
4. Shirley asked tots to collect chips and the pictures to do the counting activity did last week. When Png Png returned the chips and the activity instruction to her, she asked Png Png how many cookies did Ted eat? Png Png answered 8 cookies in the box. Shirley said very good memory. Good thing Png Png responded with the correct answer plus something not in the question ie to tell Shirley 8 cookies (he put) in the box.
5. Shirley gave tot a picture with small bears and big bears and crayon. Tots had to color big bears in one color and small bears in another color.
6. Sang rhyme Brown bear turn around substituting brown with the color of the clothes tot wear. Eg Png Png wore orange so the lyric becomes Orange Bear turn around....
Shirley gave a list of vocabulary to introduce to tot for this literature

2011 Graduation concert

Time flies. Chen Chen will be in P1 next year. Every year, Chen Chen performed on the stage for other K2's graduation. This year, he performed for his own graduation. As parents of K2 students, we were aloted VIP seats. I guess this should be Chen Chen's last performance in graduation concert in his life. I don't expect there is performance in the graduation ceremony in Primary level and beyond.

Graduation concert this year was held at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Campus 3 Lee Foundation Theatre on 16th October 2010 from 3 to 5pm
This year we arrived super early. We went straight to the venue after Png Png's lesson at BJG. We arrived earlier than the kids and teachers from Carpe Diem.


The door to the concert hall was closed. We waited outside. My cute little bee attracted many onlookersCommencement of the grand moment Chen Chen's name was called and graduation photo flashed on the screenDirector of Carpe Diem gave out scroll



Marched back in line Recited pledge First performance - Jungle Book. This is a classic novel by Rudyard Kipling about a young orphan boy who had been raised by wolves in the Indian Jungle until his animal friends convinced him he would be better off living amongst his own kind
Second performance- Little Bunny Foo Foo
Little Bunny Foo Foo scooped up field mice, woodchucks, foxes and grizzly bears. As the number of victims grew so did his scooping methods, from lasso to tractor bucket to crane. As Little Bunny Foo Foo took his naughtiness to hyperbolic heights, a good fairy righted the wrong in an interesting way We didn''t know that Chen Chen participated in the performance for Journey to the West, so didn't take any picture of him in this performance. Took picture of Png Png insteadFinal performance -Goldilocks and the 3 bears
3 Bears went for a walk as their breakfast was too hot for eating Goldilocks walked into their house when they were out. Goldilocks went into the kitchen and tried the 3 bears' food. Food in the first 2 bowls was not nice. She liked the food in the baby bowl. She tried the bears' chair and liked the baby chair but broke it. Then she tried the bears' bed. She liked the baby bed and slept on in. The 3 bears came bome and were angry discovering baby bear's food was eaten, chair broken and a girl on baby bear's bed They roared at Goldilocks and she scampered off.
