Xylophone

Chen Chen had to perform playing xylophone during the Music project exhibit. Childcare director let him bring xylophone home to practise. Png Png was very excited over the xylophone and wanna play the xylophone as well. Png Png has interest in music

Lap booking class term 2 lesson 10

Today is the last lesson for this term. We skip the next term. Hubby left for business trip to US this morning. My dad sent us to the class. He was not sure of the way. He made a wrong turn , coupled with the traffic jam, we were late for the class

Today we did

1. Teacher Shirley showed a very good book which shows picture of vegetables by category - bulbs, legumes and beans, leaf, stem, fruits (tomatos, avocado), Chinese vegetable, roots, etc

2. Teacher Shirley asked tots what plants need to grow. She sang the song Little Seeds to answer that

3. Teacher Shirley gave out 3 pictures to let tots paste the sequence of "This is the way garden grows"

4. Tots were given a mini book with a letter C in front, and pages of name of vegetables that starts with letter C. Tots had to paste the picture of the vegetables to the page of the name of the vegetable



5. Teacher Shirley distributed 5 pictures of egg plant of different sizes for tots to arrange from biggest to smallest. First she asked tot to count the number of egg plant then told tot the egg plant grow bigger and bigger and bigger to guide tot to arrange the egg plant in sequence of size. Png Png was not able to do this activity

Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 2

My boy's favorite place to visit at night time is either Tampines Giant or Singapore Changi Airport. Tampines Giant closed at 11pm while Singapore Changi Airport is opened 24/7 some of the play activities are closed after certain time though. Besides, they are air-conditioned. Good place to enjoy free air-conditioning especially in the hot days

Lap booking class term 2 lesson 9

Today we were late for the class. When we arrived the lesson already commenced. Today's class is very literature based. Teacher Shirley talked about fruits and vegetables for almost 50 minutes

Today we did

1. Teacher Shirley took out lady's finger and sweet corn that she brought and talked about them.

Lady's finger is long and sharp like a lady's finger with long sharp nail. It is also call Okra. She let the kids smell lady's finger. Lady's finger has skin that is quite tough to protect the seeds inside. It is fruit of the lady's finger plant. It grows on the plant pointing upwards. Teacher Shirly cut lady's finger plant and gave half of it to each tot and asked them to smell. Png Png refused to go forward and take it from Teacher Shirley. Muise and Claris took lady's finger and gave to him, placed near his nose to let him smell. Teacher Shirley laughed at the scene. She said as if both Muise and Claris forced Png Png to smell lady's finger. He took from both and I returned one to Claris. He kept smelling, touching the lady's finger and placed near his mouth. Guess he wanted to taste it.

Next Teacher Shirley showed corn or corn on cob. Corn has leaf and fibre to protect corn from being eaten by insects. But at times they can be attact by nasty insects. Corn grows on the ground. Farmer uses special tractor to pull out corn

Muise brought apple, carrot and chai xin. Teacher Shirley took them and talked about them.

Apple grows on tree. It has thin skin to protect it. The seeds are in the core of the apple.

Carrot grows underground. It is the root of carrot plant. Farmer uses special tractor to pull out carrot, wash the carrots then remove the fine roots on the carrot before sending to supermarket for sale

Cai xin is leafy vegetable. It is the leaf of the plant.

We brought blue berry and white onion. Teacher Shirley took them and talked about them

There are many seeds inside blue berry. It has think skin on the outside

Onion has skin on the outside to protect it. The skin outside is light brown in color. Inside is white in color. There are layers and layers of skin on the onion. It is the bulb of the plant. Teacher Shirley tore the skin inside and showed tots that there are juices. It makes people teary when the juice splashes on the eyes. She said she always cry when cutting onion. She also let the kids smell the onion.

Xin Xian brought beet root and strawberry

Beet root has brown color skin. It is pink on the inside. I got from wikipedia that it is a tuber, just like potato

Strawberry has many small seeds on the skin. It has green leaves on top of the strawberry

Claris brought yellow kiwi and brocoli

Kiwi has hairy skin. It has many tiny seeds inside. It's skin is brown in color

Brocoli is flower of a plant We eat the stem and flower of brocoli. It is a very nutrious vegetable

Teacher Shirley arranged the fruits in the order of blue berry, strawberry, kiwi and apple to teach the concept of sizes. She cut all the fruits, onion and brocoli to let the tots smell and see where are the seeds. Teacher Shirley said that anything that has seeds is the fruit of the plant. Many commonly known vegetables eg tomato are classified by botanists as fruits because it has seeds. They are classified by lay man as vegetables because they are eaten with main meal instead of desserts

2. Teacher Shirley poured orange and green color paint and gave each tot cut lady finger and brocoli to do printing

We normally go to Ang Mo Kio library after Png Png attended lap book class on Sunday. So far, this is the library that I came across with kids friendly books drop off and borrow books station

Today we did

1. Sang Good Afternoon song

2. Teacher Shirley read Carrot Seed. She asked if the little boy has no wheelbarrow, how can he move the carrot home? 1 tot answered ask daddy and mummy for help. Teacher Shirley asked if daddy and mummy not around? Can the little boy tie a string then pull the carrot? Or kick the carrot home? Or roll the carrot home? She said this is a rare scenario where we can teach/test tot on problem solving skill

3. Teacher Shirly read a book on Life cycle of seed. She said leaf can be of any shapes - round, oval, heart shape, compound leaves. Leaf comes in different colors - yellow, purple, red, green, brown. It can be big or small

4. 3 pictures and stickers words on life cycle of plant were given to parents to guide tots to learn life cycle of plant and paste on lap book

5. A mini book with title "What plant need to grow" and 3 pictures - sun, water and wind (air) were given to parents to teach tots

6. A mini book "In my garden" with picture of 2 tall sun flowers and grasses was given to tots to name what other things do they see in their garden and draw out in the picture. Png Png only said he saw bunny.

Grace's 6th birthday party

Irene sent an invitation to Grace's 6th birthday party at HortPark. She makes birthday party for Grace very unique every year.


The theme this year was butterfly and flower. Hmmm....... I scratched my head to think what to wear for my boys to match the themeBoth Png Png and my attire has floral prints to match the theme. By the way, my dress is actually my maternity dress. Wu hu..............

The pot of plant is the birthday goodie. Isn't that better than the usual snacks and party stuff goodie bag?Next, a guide brought us to Butterfly garden to learn about the different stages of butterfly metamorphosis. This landscaped theme garden features an enclosure where visitor can experience close encounter with nearly 20 species of beautiful native butterflies amongst tropical plants Queued to go into the enclosure

It started to drizzle. I carried Png Png back to the main lobby where there was shelter. The rest continued with their tour. Sob sob sob.....The guide explained to the kids on things they saw and highlighted to the kids what to look out for
