Potty training

I have a hard time potty training Png Png as compared to Chen Chen.

Chen Chen obeyed and followed what we said with regards to potty training. He was fully off diaper by 29 month.

Png Png refused to sit on potty and toilet bowl. I followed what I read from baby center on potty training and start Png Png with sitting on the potty with diaper and pants on.

I set a rule for Png Png. Other than breakfast, lunch and dinner, he has to sit on potty to eat whatever he wants to eat. And, I call that potty time. I can only practise this during night time after I came home from work.

On the other hand, I let him go without diaper to let him feel how comfortable and cooling it is to be without diaper.

Tonight he was on the potty with pants but without diaper during potty time. He asked for diaper half way eating the cookies I baked for him. I asked him if he wants to pass urine or motion. He told me he wanna pass urine. I purposely delayed in putting him on diaper. I discovered that his pants were wet when I wanted to put him on diaper. I told him he urinated and looked around for the puddle of urine all over the house but in vain. I asked Png Png where did he urinated. He told me in the potty. True enough there was urine in the potty. I was in cloud nine. I praised him and told everyone at home. Everyone cheered for Png Png. He was as happy as a king. Hope his potty training start from today and bid goodbye to diaper very soon

Today we did
1. Sang Good Afternoon song
2. Shirley showed picture of a butterfly. She asked how many wing does butterfly have? 4 wings. What is the thin part in the middle? Head and body. Body is made up of thorax and abdomen. Does butterfly flutter wings very fast (Shirley dramatised flutter wings very fast with hands and panting) or very slowly (Shirley dramatised flutter wings in a relax manner). Butterfly is not a humming bird. Humming bird flutters wings very fast. Butterfly flutter wings slowly. How many leg do we have? 2 legs. How many legs do butterfly have? 6 legs. Where are the legs in the picture? They are on the other side which cannot be seen in the picture. Who stomp legs? (Sirley dramatised stomp legs) Elephant. Does butterfly stomp legs? No It tiptoes. What if butterfly stomp it's legs? The flower will be flatten and there will be no nectar. Shirley put a straw in her mouth. She said butterfly has a straw in it's mouth. What does butterfly drink with straw? Is it milk, milo, ribena? Butterfly uses it's straw to suck nectar. When it finishes, it rolls up it's straw and keeps it. It doesn't want to poke it's friends with the straw. Shirley actioned roll up straw in her mouth. Butterfly's straw is called proboscis. Shirley gave each tot a straw. Parents to dramatise butterfly fly to a flower, straighten straw, suck nectar and roll up straw with tot 3. Shirley showed tot a piece of A4 size paper and asked what is the shape. Rectangle. What is the shape after folding the paper into half? A smaller rectangle shape. Shirley scope yellow color, blue and red color paint on 1 side of the folded paper, mix blue and red color but leave yellow color as it is. She asked tot to guess will the color be printed on the other side if the paper is folded up. Shirley folded the paper to demonstrate what happen. This activity teaches the concept of symmetry. Parents to do this activity with tot. For older tot, parents to guide tot by giving verbal instruction.
4. Parents to guide tot to fix a butterfly picture cut into 4 pieces puzzle
5. Sang 7 days in a week song
6. Paste 4 pictures of the life cycle of butterfly. Parents to guide tot to pick up sequence of the life cycle by referring to Eric Carle's story book "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" - In the light of the moon, a little egg lay on a leaf....pop! Out the egg came a tiny and very hungry caterpillar...

Paint Easter egg

I kept many egg shells after using the eggs for baking or cooking. Thought of using them to make agar agar for my boys during Easter. On a second thought, this way may not be hygienic and most likely their small tummy won't be able to take it. So I let them do painting on the egg on Easter day.

Serious cut on the forehead

Png Png had a serious accident in childcare center today. His classmate Kai Hao fell and knocked Png Png down. Png Png fell and hit against the corner of the wall. There was a very deep cut on his forehead. Teacher called me and sent him to Healthway clinic at Elias mall. Fortunately, hubby and I were not working today. We rushed down to the clinic. Upon reaching, the clinic assistant gave us a referral letter to Changi Hospital. The cut on Png Png's forehead was too deep. He had to be sent to hospital for stitching. We sent him to Parkway East Hospital. The doctor at A&E department asked me if we are concerned of leaving a scar on Png Png's forehead. Needless to say, of course I don't want scar on my baby. She called a plastic surgeon ton stitch Png Png. Png Png was tied tightly to the surgery bed. A nurse held his head. Boy, my heart shattered but I still need to stayed strong by his side, comforting him throughout the entire stitching process. The surgeon stitched Png Png the inner layer of his skin then the outer layer.
Png Png's luck is very bad since Lunar New Year. He kept falling sick - high fever, skin yellow, stomach flu, vomit, skin flare ups, now this. It should be Kai Hao who will be injured in the first place but Png Png became his cushion.

Lap booking class Term 2 lesson 1

The literature used for the next 5 lessons is The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle

We were a little late today as Png Png threw tantrum and refused to change. He didn't nap enough

1. Shirley read The Very Hungry Caterpillar with animation

2. Shirly showed a book on butterflies and asked tots where do you find certain color (Yellow, Purple, Green, etc) on the butterfly. She also highlighted the print like eyes, zig zag lines on the butterflies. She said children's observation are sharp but we need to train them to observe. Highlighting colors, patterns on butterflies help to sharpen tot's observation and build their vocabulary

3. Shirley gave a piece of paper with picture of 6 different kind of butterflies and individual picture for tot to match. She said for older tot, let tot describe to parent the picture. Matching the picture is too simple to older tot 4. Sang rhyme 7 days in a week.

Durian

There is a road side durian stall outside Rivervale mall. Hubby bought a 猫山王榴槤 to let the boys experience eating durian from the durian husk from raod side stall. That durian costed $28.
Png Png stood up to eat durian. The chair was too low for him.

Swimming lesson

We wanted let Chen Chen learn swimming long ago. However, Chen Chen kept turning us down. He only wanna learn to swim from daddy. After much persuasion, Chen Chen finally agreed to learn swimming from a professional swimming coach.

Chen Chen attends swimming lesson at Tampines Swimming Complex on every Saturday from 5:30 to 6:30 pm

Painting

Among all the coloring media, Png Png likes paint the most. So, I bought him paints for his birthday gift
