Today we did
1. Sang Good Afternoon song
2. Teacher Shirley read Polar bear, Polar bear, what do you hear?
3. Teacher Shirley talked about Polar bear. Polar bear is not white in color through out. It's eyes, nose, claws are black. She pointed to Eric Carle's book and said that the Polar bear in the picture is not white in color through out. There is different shade of white. I read in books that baby polar bear is very white. whereas adult polar bear is cream in color.
Teacher Shirley turned to picture of Lion and said that lion in the picture has brown and yellow stripes on the mane. She said Eric Carle and Leo Lioni's books are very good in different color shade illustration. Highlight this to tots. This prepares tots for art appreciation.
Polar bear loves to eat seal, walrus. Polar bear catches prey with claws then tear the meat. It eats the fats of seals and walrus and leave the rest of the parts. She showed a book on Polar bear. There is a picture of Polar bear biting a piece of bloody meat. Teacher Shirley asked the tots why the Polar bear's mouth is red then explained that that polar bear is eating a piece of fresh bloody meat. She asked how Polar bear cleans the blood then answered it cleans blood stain on the body by rolling itself on the ice
She pointed to a picture of seal and said seal is white in color but it is not a polar bear. Then she pointed to a picture of walrus and said walrus has flippers, not legs
She mentioned brown bears climbs on trees to get bee hives, tears bee hives apart then licks the honey. After licking honey, it eats the bees then throw away the bee hives
4. Next, Teacher Shirley talked about leopard. Leopard pounces on prey with it's claws then bites on the prey and tears the meat apart with it's sharp teeth. She actioned how leopard does that. She said action catches tots' attention than plain reading. Leopard stays in Savannas where there are scatterred tress, long dried grasses. Leopard loves to eat rabbits, deer, zebra. They hide themselves in the tall gress to catch prey.
5. Teacher Shirley returned the leopard picture that tots painted last week. She gave out a piece of yellow paper for pasting the leopard picture. Tots were given a pencil to draw whiskers on the leopard's face. Tots were given yellow marker to draw a upward line as dried grasses in Savannas. Tots naturally draw lines downwards. So this train their hand eye coordination and motor skill. Png Png refused to return pencil to teacher Shirley or exchange for yellow marker. So, he drew dried grasses with pencil. Teacher Shirley gave out thin brown color stripes for tots to paste on the leopard as though they are hidden behind dried grasses.
6. Sang and action nursery rhymes Polar bear and 3 brown bears

1. Sang Good Afternoon song
2. Teacher Shirley read the book Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What do you hear
3. Teacher Shirley asked tots to name the sequence of the animals featured in the book
4. Teacher Shirley talked about flamingo and leopard
Why flamingo has long neck and long legs Long legs so that it will not wet it's legs and butt when standing in the water. Long neck so that it can bend down to drink water and catch prey. What does flamingo eat? Algae, sea snails, shrimp. What is the color of flamingo? Pink, some has red feather at the bottom of their butt
I checked in google, flamingo is actually white or grey in color. The shrimp they eat turns their feathers pink
Leopard in the book has different shades of colors. Yellow in the center and orange at the 2 ends. It looks similar to cheetah with spots on the body. But leopard has ROSETTE on the back, ie few spots to form a flower pattern. Jaguar also has rosette but it has a black spot in the center of the rosette and rosette on Jaguar's skin is bigger than that of leopard
5. Tots had to name the parts of polar bear. 5 small stickers were given to parents to write and paste the parts tots named. Png Png only named eye then loose his concentration
6. Each tot was given a cut out of a leopard picture. Tots had to paint the leopard with a paint brush. Png Png enjoyed painting the leopard
7. Teacher Shirley gave out small cut out pictures of 6 types of bears (black bear, brown bear, polar bear, panda bear, sun bear and sloth bear) and the corresponding words for tots to match the picture against the words. I can't get Png Png to do it at all
